So what kind of ride(s) and location are you hoping and planning for in 2013? Do you keep a future dirt biking bucket list? Events you catch every year? Tell us about it....
This year Hatfield-McCoy WV area to ride . Also SE OH. As usual lots of Michigan, New Mexico dualsport riding. Will likely ride the LooseNut DS ride in Evansville IN again this year also.

not too much, hope to make the Pine ridge (if they have it) and Inyan Kara enduros on the 300 and maybe get back to Moab on the 990? I would also like to spend a couple weekends on the Big Horns on the 990. other than that just the usual trails around here with a few friends..

I would like my dirt bike to run for an entire day without acting up. Hope springs eternal that the float height adjustment I just did (last weekend) will solve the issue.
EDIT: After three rides, the bike has started every time and can even be kick-started now (first kick). I think it's actually fixed (keeping fingers crossed).
The Hatfield-McCoy trail system is a half day drive away and I'd like to spend a long weekend checking it out.
I would also like to ride the Blackwater 400 route R Doug and I cobbled up from beginning to end. Maybe even extend it to a 600 mile three-day ride.

First event of 2013 for me will be a Hare Scramble on January 6th.
Hatfield McCoy is on the to do list but no date set. Hard to say what the rest of the year will bring.

I should have the trails at the property in order by late spring and I've scoped out some more of the twisty gravel roads in the area.

It's roughly 200 miles of mostly dirt roads from the Laurel Highlands area of southwestern PA (Seven Springs ski resort) down to Blackwater Falls State Park/Canaan Valley. Then return the next day via a different, mostly dirt road ride. You can add a third day in the middle to do a loop to south that includes Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, etc.

Hi Garry, Do you know what the cost is for a yearly pass? Aslo, is it possible to get a detailed route for the Blackwater 400?
Thanks,

RE: BW400 Route
This is just a project R Doug and I had a couple years ago. We have never actually ridden the entire loop in one shot. It is possible that some of what we mapped out is closed now. I have an old GDB file, but I can't vouch for it in 2013.

Thanks for the info. The website must not have loaded correctly for me.
I am new to offroad riding and want to get an idea of what is legal to ride and what isn't. There doesn't appear to be any riding in the Lancaster area so I will be checking out Tuscarora State Park and Michaux State Forest when it warms up a bit.

Did the Hatfield-McCoy with a bunch of my WV hillbilly Honda friends guiding the way. It was fun. Not challenging fun. Pretty easy going but the time with friends making it a few days of good memories. I'd do it again

We did a few hours at Hatfield McCoy last week. It was pretty nice. Even the bunny trails had a few sections that got our attention. I saw some of the other non bunny trails heading off into the woods. There is challenging there, you just need go and look for it. The pass is 50 bucks and that buys you access to all 7 (?) of the systems. We both bought passes and scouted a few other places to stay while in the area. There is a private place called burning rock
http://www.burningrockwv.com/
that has their own private trails. With that comes the requirement to purchase their own private trail pass that is separate (and $10 more) from the HM trail system. It's a nice facility. We might pony up and just buy their pass too. The value of being able to ride from the trailer (or cabin or whatever lodging you choose) right to the trail without having to trailer is quite nice. They're also purchasing a new rental fleet for next year including bikes so you'll be able to just throw some money at an opportunity to go ride trails without having anything but your own gear. They may even rent that. I didn't ask.
The other place we checked out was Ashland ATV Resort. That was really nice as well and we'll likely be going down there in the relatively near future for exploration.
http://www.atvresort.com/
It sits right in the middle of the Indian Ridge trail system which connects via trail to both the Pocahantas system below and the Pinnacle Creek system (which we rode) above. It will basically allow you to ride all day long and leave the trail only to get gas. Ashland has gas and propane on site as well.
Keep in mind that all our trips involve pulling a 31 foot trailer so the accommodations we searched out were specific to our needs. I'm sure there are other places that would serve different needs quite well.
The area is economically depressed and desperate for your recreation dollars. The towns have passed ordinances allowing off road vehicles to drive on public streets just so you can come off the trails and go to the local mom n pop for lunch and to buy your sundries. They REALLY want us to visit. One of the towns actually rerouted the trail so it would come out on the road FARTHER from the gas station just to give riders the opportunity to pass by local shops on the way to the gas station in hopes that they'd stop and eat or buy or otherwise throw money at the town. There are other similar places popping up all around but we chose those two for their advertising budget. Shallow, I know but anyone can call their place an ATV resort.
While we were down there, we picked up a copy of Rec Rider Magazine
http://www.recrider.com/
This is a PA based off road rag with an amazing amount of information about local riding opportunities. Apparently, there are a lot of areas to ride around the Mid-Atlantic that just aren't very well known. Think smaller versions of Hatfield McCoys. Some are pay to play and some are Federal / State lands that just don't get any press. I look forward to devouring this site to find places to ride that are closer than HM trails for when we don't have several days to dedicate to a trip. The map of PA they have showing areas to ride is very exciting as there are MANY that are highlighted. Duh, it's a really big state.
We just invested pretty heavily in bikes and gear to be DS capable. The hope is to justify all those purchases by riding the bikes, preferably off road, as often as vacation allows.

TAT is in the planning stages. Alaska is on the radar and a trip up to the great white north isn't far behind...no way I can do them all in 2013, but for sure the TAT, a few trips to WV and one trip up north will happen.

This. There are some great places to stay down there. The scenery is beautiful and there are challenging trails there, you just have to get out and find them. But the biggest part of the experience (for me, anyway) is that the towns really love having you there. The people will bend over backwards to help you out, and they take great care of the trails. That's been my experience, anyhow.
Stay at Outback ATV in Matewan and ask Jeff about the Top of the World ride. Great view

My 2013 bucket remains as it was. I drove to the Hare scramble in January but was unable to ride and I never made it to Hatfield/McCoy.
I did however ride some interesting places, meet some interesting folks and attend my first big Dual Sport weekend event. I even managed to get to a point in my riding that I don't always have to judge the days success in more technical terrain by how many times I get ejected from the bike.
Next years list is done. I'm leaving it blank and going to take it as it comes.

Good plan for next year :-)
I had hoped to do a lot of dual sport riding this season. So far it's been exactly four days (one long weekend) plus a couple mostly street day rides. I'm supposed to be at a weekend riding/camping trip this (beautiful) weekend at a local ATV park (Rock Run in Patton, PA) but work ate my life (again) and I'm sitting at home writing a requirements document instead of riding.
