 Wow   Mad2

How in the hell this bike went 36 miles home at 65mph and I couldn't hear this....I'll never know.

Sorry about your discovery. Quite the galled cam. Can you swap a shim with another valve, dump a ton of good synthetic in it and ride? Since the cam is needing replacement a few hundred miles could be possible ... but ... I dream for you ...

But as far as the WCRM goes ....

I sure hope you do attend. Your effort has been exemplary, and embodies the finest of motorcyclist traditions. And, the fact that it has not worked out should not short change you from connecting with your peers and enjoying a nice weekend with likeminded folks. K ?

Please attend !

 Well it is a KLR....

 I kid.

That must be some defect in the cam material. The other lobe looks fine. My ZX600A had some pitting when I got it, but it never got any worse in the 50K I put on it.

I concur that you should attend regardless of your mode of transport.

Yep. I'm afraid so. Needed the money in the bank since I'm out of work and seem to be the only guy in Sacramento who can't find even a temp job right now... http://www.sacbee.com/2013/05/27/5450128/number-of-temporary-workers-surges.html

Not sure exactly what let go in the head, but it sure did some damage, and I still can't figure out how it ran, let alone ran without noise?

Check out this cam journal...  Crazy

Aww c'mon Jim! You should know that people don't want to hear about others' problems! They want to cry into their beer about their problems! So buy yourselves a few beers, let the tears flow and then cheers to a better future Beerchug

Nada - sorry to hear about the engine failure. You should ping Carbonaro and see what (if anything) he has left in inventory from when he parted out my KLR.

Thanks Colleen! I'll do that.  Bigok

It's all okay, really. I'm not as angry as I thought I'd be. I'm more bummed that I won't be able to ride to the WCRM. Also, I can part out the bike if I have to, and come real close to getting my money back.

I'm leaving that decision for another day though.

That'll buff out.

Seriously, I'm so bummed to see that. I admire how you're handling it. I think I'd be more bent. Heck, I've been bitching all day about being stuck at the DMV.

Looking forward to meeting you there. We'll toast to better times.

Can't make WCRM, but if anyone is running through Fortuna or Arcata on Friday the 7th I might be able to meet 'n' greet.  Make it early enough (9 AM) and I could even ride FH1 with y'all.  PM if that sounds fun.

The preparations begin....  Bigok

I hate when this happens! Tons of tread left on this tire, but clearly not enough for 8 days of blasting many of California's finest twisty gifts to motorcyclists. If anyone wants a half-used 190/55 PR2 for free, send me a shipping label and I'll tape it on there with some clear tape and call for a pickup. Lord knows I'm far too lazy to re-mount a half-used tire...  Rolleyes   Lol

I am doing the same thing today with my PR2's where the front is about 2/3 gone and the rear a little less wear. But, I don' want to stress tires on this trip. In fact, I don't want to stress anything.  Hey it is sunny ! Woo Hoo ... time to pop the tires in the sun to warm and perhaps retrigger the Melanin in my skin so I don't fry in Sunny Cal.  Lol Cool

I am outa here Monday ....  Bigok
