On the homepage of the CalTrans site there's a clickable graphic advertising Quickmap, a collaboration with Google Maps. Here's the direct link:

http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

Combines Google traffic and satellite layers with CalTrans' lane closures, CHP/CHIN incidents (clicking this box will show you which Sierra passes are currently open - 88 (Carson) and 4 (Ebbetts)), message signs, and a few other things.

My new go-to link for travel planning in California.  Thumbsup
