I will see what I can contribute. Heading out in the early afternoon and having a very leisurely ride down Roosevelt Lake on 25 to Springdale-Hunters Rd to Loon Lake.

I have an appoint in Spokane tomorrow, then off to meet Dr. Zorko in Winthrop to start our trip to Weaverville.

Miracle cargo shorts...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8974042980/

I loved these shorts, and apparently they loved me back, because they pulled off an amazing feat on my first day out. It all started when I stopped at an overlook of 33 to eat my sausage mcmuffin I picked up at the MickyD's somewheres slightly before Ojai. http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8962520504/

Upon leaving, I seem to have been derelict in my duties to 'properly' latch the top-box. It was a short time later after clearing the top of the pass, and blazing at high speeds down-hill toward the mini-redrock canyon section that my top-box became un-latched.

It was while flying through a downhill right high-speed sweeper perhaps slightly north of the ton when it happened. I felt my rear tire 'hop over' something  and step out a bit for an instant. Just enough to register a 'WTF?' in the moto-control-center of the brain Wink. I was sure the road was clear ahead as I went through, so the sensation was very perplexing. I was quick enough to get a glance in the rear-view mirror before it was completely out of sight. Didn't know what it was, but there was something definitely in the middle of the road where I had just passed.

Upon turning around to investigate, it was my poor cargo shorts that were previously freshly washed, laying in the middle of the road all dirty and mangled (there're tears in the ass that I couldn't bear to photograph ).

So apparently these cargo shorts (may they R.I.P.), leaped out of my top-box as soon as it became un-latched, and some-how miraculously moved forward from there to get under my tire to warn me I was about to loose all my shit that I had in my top-box. If not for this selfless act, from my be-loved cargo shorts, I'm 100% sure the entire contents of the box would be strewn over 30-40 miles of highway 33 before I even noticed. I need to donate these shorts to a museum, so then they could be featured on that cool show 'Mysteries at the Museum' ...  lol

Otherwise, that's some hella vacuum vortex created by the topbox and side-bags when flirting with the ton... lol

Well?  Did you all melt to death?  Lol

Pretty close to it.  Lol  This heat is not kidding around.

But I made my required pilgrimage to the "next 140 miles" sign, rode some fine roads, laughed a lot at dinner, and am about to join the bench racing. It makes for a great day even if I do have to burn my t-shirt.  Bigsmile

Cool vests rock. So does ice, air-conditioning, and water. So does ice-cold beer.

But what rocks the most is that I got my picture by the 140 miles of twisties sign and rode 36 and 3 to Weaverville.  Bigok

The intention tomorrow is to get up early, ride toward the coast, then loop back to W-ville in the early afternoon and return to ice, water, and a/c.

Be safe and hydrate.  The only thing keeping me from being totally bummed about not making this is the fact that I got to ride a lot of those roads last September with Bubba...then again, having rode a lot of those roads, I do know what I'm missing.

http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s206/squeezer_penn/IMG_20130608_112031_692.jpg

Live report on a short Saturday:
I set out this morning thinking I might do the loop through Cecilville, but heading north on 3, I changed my mind, deciding I didn't want to fight the mid afternoon heat three days in a row. Besides, I was having so much fun on 3, I thought I'd just hang with it, see where it goes, and then turn around to get back in early afternoon.

Those of you who have been up here before already know what I didn't -- that 3 flattens out and heads through the valley after Callahan. It's pretty, but not what I was looking for, so I was just moseying along, drumming my fingers on the tank, and trying to decide if I would stick to plan B, go back to plan A, or come up with a plan C.

That's when Mr. CHiPs decided we should have a conversation about the definition of "moseying".

Which is also when I remembered that I had left my registration and insurance in my top box which was, sadly, relaxing in my motel room.

Being clocked at 20+ over and with no docs but my drivers license, I figured things weren't going to go well. But I got lucky. Mr. CHiPs must have needed to be somewhere else. After calling in my DL and plates, he let me go with a brief and relatively pleasant warning and a strong recommendation to head back to the motel to get my paperwork before riding anywhere else. And I decided to take his advice, mostly.

I got back here around 12:30, the mercury has crossed 100, and I think I'll just grab lunch and jump in the pool. There's a lot of good riding tomorrow.

So, a short 160 mile day for me. The better news is that the rest of the clan is out there braving the elements somewhere. There's only one other bike at the motel right now. I waved gts_rider and miles by just south of Callahan and they headed toward Cecilville. I think I saw explorer and Andrew headed north on 3 while I was headed back. Viffergyrl and M.Brane headed for the coast. Don't know where everyone else headed.

I'm squeezer reporting on location for STN live news. Now we'll send you back to the studio.

Yesterday M.Brane and I headed west toward Willow Creek and Titlow Hill Road/Forest Road 1. It cools down overnight so if you are successful at getting up early, it was actually.... pleasant.  Bigok

View from the top of the ridgeline looking west toward the Pacific:

Through the forest, along the ridgeline... (where a *very large* doe ambled across the road in front of me)

...and across the meadow.

We came out on Hwy 36 and stopped at the Mad River Burger Bar - Yum! Sorry no food porn.

By now it was quite warm and we heard the siren call of the air conditioner. As we headed east on 36, yet another doe came out of the trees, clattered across the road, jumped the guardrail and then ran parallel to the road until she swung right into the forest. I blame rc30boy.

It simply got hotter and when we reached Hayfork it was pretty miserable. We slogged it out back to the motel where we collapsed in a melted pool of leather.

Today the tribe took off and we are cleaning up our pool of melted leather. And watching DIY TV and Moto2 GP from Mugello.... What is with Speed anyway?  Headscratch

Tomorrow we begin our return to Southern California....

This is viffergyrl reporting semi-live from WCRM.... back to the studio.

Home. Cut a day out to help out at home and had an awesome ride. Pulled over by OSP and let off with a warning despite a fairly high (90mph) speed.  Madras to Castlegar .... via a new secret road.

Wonderful weekend. I didn't actually mind the heat. Great bikes, better riders and, I love WEAVERVILLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!  Lol

I'm still on the road and having a great time!

Well, mentally anyway.

Physically I got home Sunday night after a fantastic ride on 3, 36, 70, 89, 267, 28 and 50. It sure was great to see everyone...

 Cool

These be my last couple daze, ripping on to home return. Was daszed and cunfuzed by the Bohemian Grove experience. Have you ever seen 'Eyes Wide Shut' ? Yeah, it was sorta like that. Late starts to recover but made it home exactly at 6pm as predicted a couple days prior....

I figured out it's much easier to copy google Street-View snap-shots, than actually stop and take a photo of my own, and get passed again by slow-mo cagers in the process... lol

Highway 1 Bolinas Lagoon and South of Stinson Beach (for the street view on Bolinas Lagoon and perhaps others, you really need to imagine at full-ripping speed with fresh awesome black-top. You can see the freshy blacktop if you zoom out to satellite view which is apparently more recent... lol)

Hwy 1, Pitkins Curve, Rock-shed tunnel

I wish I stopped to take a photo of this, but the photo-op was right in the middle of the follow the leader escort truck. It's pretty close to being done at this point, and it's bad-ass serious construction to take boulder impacts from up above. I don't mind my California tax money going towards this. It's gonna be another icon for the California coast run...

The stop for this Pitckins curve, was the perfect set-up for me. Going South, it's right before the last 10-12 miles of Serious Twisty Action, going out to Ragged Point. It was a 4-5 mintute wait, and then it was a free open-road run in my direction till maybe half-way till I caught up with the last released cager train. Still only about 5-6 in that train quickly passed on one short straight section. Ended up best run ever in that section.. Smile Smile Smile

Back home now after a pleasant ride back along 20 in Washington. Bit chilly going over the mountains but that may just be just in contrast to the 100 degree temps in Weaverville. Thank god for the pool! It was great seeing everyone and I hope to post some snaps soon.

Can I ask what kind of windshield and hard luggage you're using? I absolutely love your setup and would like to consider them for my own KLR project.

Thanks!  Bigok
