This thread is follow - on thread from the old thread which ran to 5 pages.   https://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,78465.0.html#.UdyXGm3fJGk
It became long, complex and new thread was suggested ...

Attendies Post.
There were half dozen people on former thread who already said they were coming or hoping to come.
If you want to post up here, that'd be up to you ...

As of Aug 31 - still 2 weeks away - these riders look to be attending:

I am in ... Thanks UHOH !   Bigok

Its a great spot for accessing roads and town and easy walking distance to a Yamaha dealer and a pretty good brew pub !

Downside, they repaved the parking lot about a year ago and it is the softest ever - bring an old beer can or something for your sidestand.

I'm in and bringing a bike to do some dirt road exploring.... lots of 'em in the area including portions of the OBDR. Probably going to make it a part of an extended solo trip including a business visit in Boise.  I'll make reservations tomorrow.  Bigok

Shouldn't be a problem.... Lol

Not likely. "Hey boss. I know I just started a couple of weeks ago. Can I have Friday and Monday off to go ride with my crazy motorcycle friends?"  Lol

info.

As of Aug 3 health officials are addressing an issue with the city water supply (affected 9 people) and
the motel has brought in bottled H2O for brushing teeth / restaurants are using paper plates.

Since it's still 6 wks out I bet they'll have it solved in time, but I'll check on it weekly and post up.
There are other towns nearby still in good riding region so people can be assured meet is a go, still.

(This info is from calling the motel Aug 3).

Thanks a bunch!!!  Bigok

Man I want to go so badly. But I'll only be 6 weeks into my job by then. And since I'm a contingent worker (read: temp), It's probably a really bad idea to ask for days off so soon, especially if I want to get hired on permanently.

We'll see what happens. But it won't be for lack of a completed bike if I can help it!! In the meantime, paint and bodywork is progressing nicely.  Bigsmile

Try it on the motorbike next time.  It's a whole lot easier if you don't have to pedal.

For everyone coming, Bakery City is getting there on the water situation.

http://www.bakercityherald.com/Local-News/Tests-almost-crypto-free

Also, most hiking water filters like the MSR will remove stuff like cryptosporidium found in Baker's water so if you have one bring it along just in case.  Bigok

^^^ agree.  I just called the motel across the street to be sure info was consistent.

She said Barley Brown's Brew-Pub has a filter in place and besides beer and food
you can get drinkable ice water there, in case there are any non-drinkers at the gather.

I had earlier called BB Brew Pub and was told their beer wasn't affected because
of the purification / disinfection step they do at the front end of their brewing process.

So I'm with XLR8 - it's still a go.   I'll call and check again close to end of month.

When and which way you headed Down Jeff?  I am mixed but thinking a back road blast on the way down via Ritzville  and, hopefully, saving the Enterprise to Lewiston twisties for the must do North run ?!

We're hoping to leave Edmonton Wedn. morning, taking 3 days to get there, going for high milage the first day, then fun the next two.

I'm still struggling with route options.   I do expect the first day to take me close Eureka, Mt..   After that it's flexible.
I'd considered Libby, Missoula, Lolo ( Lochsa Lodge ??)  ... or skip Libby Dam and get a bit further that day.  After that it's all Terra Incognita for me as I've not been through there before.    I was thinking Lolo to Baker City via  Lewiston.

I am certainly open to suggestions

BTW,  I may be riding with Dave (OSO) who will be riding another excellent Blackbird.

But yeah ... looking forward to this ride. You sent me a great map of Oregon. Larger scale than I had seen. So, I out and bought one for Washington and low undt behold, tons of paved backroads. So am exploring this trip and looking for more narrow, paved roads of Washington and Oregon.  Bigok

THE iconic ride is out to the Hell's Canon Dam. If you have not done it ... awesome. Dead end so ride back. Worth the ride from Baker via 86.

I am thinking of riding almost there via 86 from Baker ... and then taking FR 49 to Joseph and back to Baker.

There is a Yamaha dealer about a block from the Oregon Trail Motel in Baker. If you called ahead they would likely have a tire for you.

Let's hear about some rides people are planning on for Saturday.  Banana Where are people planning on riding?

Here's one; 232 mile loop.  All the spots have food and fuel (A, D, F have premium).
Seneca (C) has a new cafe.  Has 3 miles of (level) gravel road on route.
If counterclockwise would head north over Dooley Mtn near the end of ride....
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Baker+City,+OR&daddr=Unity,+OR+to:44.397369,-118.1129897+to:Seneca,+OR+to:John+Day,+OR+to:Bates+Post+Office,+OR+to:Baker+City,+OR&hl=en&sll=44.445546,-118.031616&sspn=1.18434,2.469177&geocode=Fds1qwIdb_35-CmZJQBDF_OkVDE_dNQWDufa7A%3BFYcPpgIduIX0-Cl75XmzpdW6VDGsu6bHvkakew%3BFTlzpQIdI731-Cmr1JKZZtO6VDFQtUE_nO-KdQ%3BFcZwoQIdIqPo-Cnpe3vz21C6VDH_7ZWilHfxVg%3BFfS7pQIdzuvo-CmrV6drcQW7VDGmF97QJw8tnw%3BFSZvqAId9LPv-CEgeiD0WRuvbSl_-oGOjTC7VDEgeiD0WRuvbQ%3BFds1qwIdb_35-CmZJQBDF_OkVDE_dNQWDufa7A&oq=bates,+or&mra=ls&via=2&t=m&z=9

Possible 275 mile loop ride.  C, D, E and F have premium fuel.
(incorrectly mapped as 295 miles at first)

Sorry to hear that Andrew ...  Sad

This is the one week BUMP!   I am still in and very much looking forward to the ride. Temps and weather look excellent, as much as anyone can rely on a forecast.  Thumbsup

I hope everyone does try to take a lot of pics, I have a goodly amount of time on Friday to get to Baker and hope to explore many new to me backroads, but I do suspect a lot of those vistas to be wheat !!  Lol

"The Oregon Trail Motel was originally built in the 1960′s and had its original claim to fame in 1968 when the cast of the movie “Paint Your Wagon” stayed at the motel during the filming of the movie. The producers of the movie had chosen the beautiful Baker, Oregon area for its natural beauty which served perfectly as a backdrop for their movie.

Amazingly, famous actors such as Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin actually paid to have the motel refurbished during their stay!  That gives us a genuine Hollywood connection for all you film buffs out there."

http://oregontrailmotelandrest.com/about/

I specifically asked for the Ray Walston Memorial Suite for my stay at the WCRM and am bringing the soundtrack from the original film so we can all sing along  and some My Favourite Martian antenna just for kicks !!!!  Bigok

Well the travel schedule looks favorable, not sure the plan yet but most likely leaving Thursday afternoon.

If you're riding a Honda, don't forget a spare voltage regulator / rectifier.  You don't want to end up stranded in Halfway OR like this guy.  That was probably a pretty expensive tow.

Zumo updated to the latest firmware and map set.

Latest release of base camp installed.

Routes planned and transferred to device.

Hotel reservation made.

Bike prepped.

Just need to get through work tomorrow, stop for liquor, throw some clothes and tools into the side bags for a Friday morning departure.

Sorry gang I'm not going to make it. I made it all the way to Y-recka Yesterday (543 miles) that included hwy 1, 101, 36, 3, 299. By the time I got to the motel, my back was killing me. It was so bad at times that I could not sleep. It was not much better this morning, so I jumped on 5 and bugged  home. with the help of a lot of Advil extra strength. Going to the chiropractor tomorrow. I hope you all have fun.

Great event !  Hard to beat Baker as a destination in my mind and with some familiar friends and great new acquaintances, it was a terrific weekend.  YES  Bigok Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup to doing this again next year !!!  Bigsmile

I am so happy with my Guzzi  Bigok Everything but the tight twisties is lovely for this bike. Really tight corners, in succession ...  require a lot of thought and awareness of the cornering limits. But everything else is a dream to ride. I am liking this bike more and more  Cool

It was nice seeing everyone again, this was the third STN event I was able to attend this year, even though it overlapped a PNWRiders event I coordinate.  Maybe next time we can start the PNWRiders event on Friday and double the fun.  I hope everyone had a good ride home.

This was Steve's Ride. See above. We got a great deal at the Oregon Trail thanks to him  Bigok Thumbsup

ST.n tagged along and we are happy we did.

The three (or was it four) big Kawasaki's were almost ... er .. almost ... overshadowed by THREE Moto Guzzi NORGE's !!!!  Lol  Er .. ah .. OF COURSE THEY WERE !!!

Most amazing, and possibly timeless bike of the get together is Rob707 and his timeless BMW K12.  Ever try and keep up with him?

Cecil is and was, the official photographer of this event ... he, being the consummate nice guy, was in a unique position to catch us all ... at our worst !!  Lol

Crazy weather on the way home. As I descended into Pendelton the temps really shot up to almost 90F at 8:45am accompanied by huge and extremely gusty winds. Then they died down and temps went up and down all over the place. Must have been a hell of a cold front moving through. I got a bit of rain in northern Washington but managed, with an early start to stay ahead of a big storm. I imagine others may not have.  The tumbleweeds were flying !!  Lol

Well, Sandie and I made it back home early this afternoon. We stayed in Coulee City last night. A wicked storm came through around 8:00 last night.  Glad we were settled in our room before it hit.
It was great getting reacquainted with old friends and meeting new ones.  Looking forward till the next meet.

Can't wait for the next one in June. Of course, it'll probably be scheduled for the weekend of my daughter's 18th birthday (June 6). But that's okay, I'll just make the September one, unless of course it ends up on the weekend of my wife's 40th birthday (Sept. 15).    Crazy  Lol

I feel the extra thought you put into negotiating a challenging set of twisties on a Guzzi make it that much more engaging than a more nondescript offering from the Orient  Bigsmile It really adds to the experience  Inlove
