V-Strom Owners - What have you done about your windshield and / or seat???
«

Those of us that have ridden V-Stroms for awhile know that there are two problems with them. The first is the poor wind "management" that causes head / helmet buffetting (sp?) and too much wind getting to the body while riding in cold weather. The second is the very uncomfortable, too hard, poorly shaped saddle. So, what have you done to your Strom to make it better in these areas, and how satisfied are you with the results?

I have 2012, and have no problem spending half a day in the saddle - I guess I'm one of the lucky few.
The wind management is another issue. The shape of the front end seems to create a lot of turbulence and changing screens hasn't solved it (yet) for me. I put an MRA Xcreen spoiler on the stock screen and it makes a big difference but it that the turbulence/buffeting I'm experiencing is coming from the sides of the fairing. Some guys on Stromtrooper are fabbing up little spoilers to deal with it and it seems to be working for them. I might try to put something together one of these weekends.
I will say that the helmet you wear can make a big difference. With my Bell Vortex I would get a headache after about half an hour, but I just got a Shoei GT Air and it is a LOT better.

I had a Sargent seat and MP windscreen on my 2007 DL650. MP since went out of business. Madstad seems to have picked up the design. I added a Madstad bracket later for windscreen angle and height adjustability.
My 2012 DL650 has a Madstad screen bracket and a Russell day long seat. The Russell is a much better seat than the Sargent.

I have an '03 DL1000.
I currently do not even have a windshield on it. I find the stream of air without it is perfect. I'm 5'6".
As for the seat... meh. Doesn't bother me so much, but my daughter complains after a couple hours on the back.

The Madstad bracket was the way to go for me with the stock windshield in the lowest position.
The seat....everyone's ass is different so anything you read will be a mute point. For that matter the same goes for the windshield but the bracket will get you there, at least partly if not completely, without having to try a bunch of different shields.

Helmet change was the critical difference in buffering for me. Going from an HJC IS-16 to a Shoei RF1100 was huge.
I changed to a factory gel seat. Love it.

Sold my DL650 a while back (OK years). The Maddstadd bracket made a night and difference with the stock screen. Loved everything about it.
No complaints about the stock seat.

DL650 here. 2004 model.
Seat isn't bad. I'm not far from two custom seat makers and have considered getting one of those high speed comfy saddles.
I had buffeting issues until I put the stock windscreen and bracket at the lowest setting. I'm 5'8" and wear a Shoei Neotec.

My stock seat is ok for a few hours. The windshield, I just took it off. Completely. Much cleaner stream of air up over the fairing now.

Madstad bracket in lowest position opened up as far as possible, except when it's cold and/or raining.
I do not like my Corbin seat, but it is 100x better than stock. Then again, a pine fence post would be at least 10x more comfortable than stock. I could not tolerate stock for more than 2 hours. While a Russel may be the most comfortable touring seat you can find, I found it more difficult to shift my weight in corners. If I were to buy another seat for my Wee, I'd go with Sargent.

I'm with Skee—I couldn't handle the stock seat longer than a day---so I replaced it with a Corbin Canyon and it's been pure bliss ever since! :-) Last year I picked up a V-Stream windscreen, and that's been awesome too. I'm 5'11" and the top edge of the V-Stream is slightly above my eyes---it's nice and quiet (and warmer) behind it in winter.
(I use the stock screen in the lowest position in spring/summer/fall.)

2002 1000, experimented with trimming down the stock shield and cutting an increasingly larger hole at the base of the shield before just taking it off and riding without a shield anymore. stock seats kinda sucky, might try a bead seat, but I've been saying that for years.

Bead seat resolved the comfort issue for me, until it came time to use the brake. Never could get used to sliding forward into the tank as it came to a stop.

Had an '06, went with the Windstrom screen and optional fairing, the results were impressive! Given the great results I've had w/ the MRA Varios on two other bikes, I would be inclined to try it for the Wee at a fraction of the cost of the Windstrom. Never got to the seat, I met my Sprint first...

My new to me 07 has the Madstad bracket and a Givi screen. After some playing around, I've got it adjusted pretty well and I have a fairly smooth ride. It IS a motorcycle, after all.
Seat? I'm very short. Had Spencer build me a seat and had him lower it a bit. Had it a week, so I'm still breaking in, and breaking it in. (Google spencer, motorcycle seat and I think you'll find him.)

On my dad's 2008 650, he has a sargent seat, and a mad-stad with a cal-sci. He likes it.
