Check out KERNVILLE Ca. in the Southern Sierras.

I do a annual October run with about 20 guys and we stay in this town on the Kern River.

KERN LODGE is a nice place to stray with a brewery/restaurant right behind the motel if your so inclined to partake in a frosty cold one....or two.

Nice area with all kinds of GREAT roads to ride with no traffic and rarely a cop seen.

Check it out on a map....the 155......the 190 coming up from PORTERVILLE, it's Southern Californias version of the Swiss Alps, miles and miles of nice cambered twisties.......Sherman Pass up and over to the 395 (best time to do Sherman Pass is in late Summer/Early Fall, usually closed from snow in the spring)....the 178 is a high speed sweeper road.

And if it's warm you can go swimming/tubing on the KERN RIVER....the KErn Lodge has a built-in swimming pool also, and a nice picnic/BBQ area with a HUGE marble look with 2 LARGE BBQ grills......grocery store right across the street.

I'll be there the weekend of October 5th.....can't wait.

Anyway just a good suggestion of a place with great roads, no traffic, and beautiful scenery.

Distance shouldn't be a huge factor on a sport-touring website.   Lol

I can't believe I missed this road! I took 178 out of Lake Isabella. Just a quick turn north and I could have had the sun in my eyes on this choice tidbit  Cool

If it was in early May, I could probably make it. Hoping to head down to Chino to watch the Planes of Fame Airshow 2014, which I have always wanted to see. Kernville looks like an easy stop along the way.

WCRM is usually farther north due to the west region being essentially the entire US west coast. I enjoy the opportunity to ride in northern CA. It gives me a good excuse to use more vacation time, and rubber.

Nothing against the south Sierras. Just got back from there as a matter of fact. Crossed Portuguese Pass aka 23S16 off the list.

If it's essentially the "entire" US West Coast wouldn't it be a good idea to rotate from North to South??

Why have it North every year?

Historically it's been in the middle of the region.  Coming up from San Diego as I do, it's just about as far to Fortuna or Weaverville for me as it is for somebody from Vancouver, BC.

I'd love to stay in KERNVILLE , on the KERN RIVER. Hey just teasing here, and all kidding aside, I really would!

Seems like a cool place to place to hang out and go river-rafting, if that's you thing.

For me, I'm thinking it's on the South-End of some of the greatest roads in California, many Notherner's ( talking Oregon,Washington, BC) have not yet explored.

You can say if ya'll decided to run King's Cyn , and check out Sequoia NP on they way out, it would be do-able, to get back before sunset , or even before last chance for dinner. I will still call, Liar! lol

For me, if your gonna call a ride for the South Sierras, needs to be more central to give the greatest reach for the innumerable roads on the North and South reaches. Bass Lake, Mammoth Pool back roads, sooo out of reach from KERNVILLE.  You mentioned PORTERVILLE, which is pretty much a direct hit, though I still prefer 3 Rivers...  Razz

Well I don't go to KERNVILLE for the river rafting even though I'm sure it's a blast....I go to ride all the great roads AROUND Kernville....there's 3 days worth of riding roads all over that area.

The roads around 3 Rivers look pretty awesome and connect up to Kings Canyon. Haven't been there in donkeys years.

Not sure how long a donkey year is but I was there last year and it is spectacular through Kings Canyon and Sequoia Natl Park... personally, I'd prefer something a bit earlier in the year to avoid the heat as I don't do well in triple-digit temps... late May or early June perhaps? Or early October is nice too and you can get some fall colors in as well.

Couple of pics from last year's adventure in the aforementioned area... B)

Be nice if we could nail down some dates for the WCRM, even if location is to follow, just for planning around holidays etc. I hope to have two full weeks to ride in late May early June.

We could always switch it up this year and do the June meet in John Day/Baker, and the Fall .5 meet in the KERNVILLE area (why are we capitalizing it anyway?)  Lol
