Good location.  Anybody know if the lodge is MC friendly?

I can't say that I blame him. A lot of work goes into planning a National and a lot of people aren't happy with what does get planned. Last year someone tried to spearhead it and there wasn't enough interest. We set up the rotation to give everyone a fair shake at getting to one at least every four years, but I guess that isn't enough.

It's a National event for people who proclaim to be sport-tourers. If it needs to be planned around the six people willing to participate, then so be it... Shrug

And I think both of you are taking the comment out of context, nothing came to be last year , so do we let the west try again or move to the next slot in the rotation?? Maybe more than 6 are willing to participate if it moves east, I think Both of you are being a bit touchy for nothing, my 2 cents Rolleyes

Indeed.  If you want something to happen and people to show the east is the place to be.

I'd vote for the Smokies area simply because WV is getting a little stale (if that's possible).  Plus 80-90% of attendees will end up going through WV to get to the Smokies anyway.

I'm not touchy about anything.  The Nat'l in the West was a FAIL,  time to move on.   I'd say it's the east's "problem" now.  Good luck.  In 3.5 years we'll get another chance.

I just realized that next years National lines up perfectly to run right before / after the FZ1 Rally @ Deals Gap next year. Can you say 3 week vacation!

Well if you moved it as far east as possible in the US, it would be the Aleutian Islands, which would be convenient for the west too.  Bigsmile Riding sucks though.

Southeast Kentucky would be a unique destination. Maps show lots of potential goodies in the area. Smokies would be my next choice. Always lots of good riding..

Kentucky is good but I don't think the area would
support a multi-day event as well as places like
Maggie Valley, NC or Johnson City, TN could in
terms of venues, food, roads etc.

Probably would depend on the kind of commitment there is to the event.  If you're talking 100+ bikes then that may be the case. Up to about 50 you could probably find an accommodation somewhere.

Agreed.  We've already put out some feelers in Maggie Valley.  It really is a gateway to great riding in all directions.

During the week the traffic isn't too bad in Maggie Valley. It is choked with loud pipes most weekends though. If you like tight twisties there are other places with NO tourist traffic in the area. Just sayin'

+1  I loath the roads between Deal's Gap and Boone, NC on weekends.  So many people have 2nd homes in this area and the roads just get bogged down.

The Maggie Valley Inn and Conference Center came back with the following:

Quote
We have 100 rooms with an onsite restaurant, lounge and poolside tiki bar.  We have ample paved parking that can accommodate trailers as well.  We also offer covered motorcycle parking and also have on property the Maggie Valley Motorcycle Welcome Center.  The BP Gas Station is next door as well.

They can do $75/night for the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday nights of the National week.
