I thought Weaverville was a good location even though it was blistering hot on that weekend (better than rain) and our motel room was a dump.  The riding was great,  there were lots of options in every direction for day trips.

I don't think we've done one in the S. Sierra. Porterville is a reasonable base, but it gets hot earlier than up North. Early to mid May would work.
How about Quincy?  Orville-Quincy and Quincy-LaPorte are very neat and it is cooler
I would be fine with Fortuna or Weaverville as well but would prefer an earlier date.

Quincy/Chester has been the site for the .5 meet a couple of times before, and was well received. I would go back there with no hesitation.

Agree, I would rather risk hot weather than rain, Weaverville was a broiler this year but I still managed a couple of very nice rides by leaving early in the morning.

I have stayed in Eureka several times as there are numerous cheap motels. However to only pub with decent food that I have found is Lost Coast Brewery - it is good but usually quite crowded , so might be difficult if we actually got a turnout.
Fortuna motels are a bit more expensive, but the Eel River Brewery next door has an outside area that can be reserved that can handle a crowd and beer/food are good.

in early May without any snow melt freezing or causing a problem as one rounds a corner? I have been told to wait til later in June to use all of the mountain passes - BUT this could be the higher ones.

That will depend greatly on this winter's weather. At this point it's simply too early to predict.

Real nice folks that run the place and they are moto friendly. I'd say mid to late June would probably be good weather wise... if you can make it before the schools get out, even better. Plus if you include a weekday or two, great riding with no traffic! Bigsmile

We're waiting for Mr. Sunshine's input.  Twofinger

Seeing as the region is so large we should have an early Rally, in May or June, down south and a fall Meet up north in, say, September. That way we can down to some serious polling.
