Well, that was a let down.  I was expecting to see more triples like  FJ-09 or FZ-11.

Not to make slight of the SR400, of course.  My very first bike was a 1980 SR250.  I really though I would have more fond memories of it, being the bike that started this life-long love affair with motorized 2 wheelers, but... to me, it was just the bike that I learned to ride on, nothing remarkable or particularly memorable.  Not at all something I am itching to jump back on.  Dunno, maybe in another 20yrs...

The configuration is classic. Just like my first bike.

Cool looking bike and very retro - maybe almost too retro.   Headscratch  The kickstarter will win hipster points.

The $6k price seems a little steep - that's $200 more than the new CB500F.  Then again, I can remember when you could buy a 600cc sportbike for $6k.

Nice...and I assume it's going to be avaialble Stateside? (I assume so, since it's on their US website)

I do like the street-tracker/street-scrambler mods they show on the site. I prefer that retro style much more so than the cafe bikes.

I'm holding out for a redux of the SRX.  Inlove  Now that would get me very excited.

What can I say... I love the 80's.

The only two let downs here for me are the $$$ and the lack of a rear disk brake.  Otherwise I like it. I've always been a fan of the SR line, particularly the SRX mentioned earlier in this thread.

Why is it that Triumph seems to be the only company to get "retro" right?

VW Beetle. Dodge Challenger. Ford Mustang. Mini Cooper. These are all excellent examples of retro vehicles; truly modern vehicles with nice nods - and in some cases, EXCELLENT styling cues - to their predecessors without being "newly built old stuff" (example: this thing, Ural, Honda Rebel, Royal Enfield, etc.)

Even the VFR can be considered mildly retro at the moment (it's been around a while in name and spirit, if not exact execution), and it's a fine - a really GOOD - example of maintaining the spirit without being mired in antiquity. Likewise, perhaps, the Honda 919/599 as a nice progression of the simple CB series. The CB1100 is a decent enough example, but weight is up and performance is down.

Maybe because Triumph uses the original tooling?

Actually, they've updated and changed quite a bit over the years, and kept it *looking* retro. Yes, they've done an excellent job of it, but I didn't want to include them because, ya know, all the anti-Harley bias around here just gets old. Shrug

Judging from some of the posts in this thread,
"The History of Motorcycles" begins when they
purchased their first bike, so in some respects,
they're right.

"Original tooling" made me laugh.  Lol

Have you seen an R nineT in the flesh? I dig the Triumphs, but the bar has been raised, a bunch IMO. Yes, the mirrors are a serious mis-step, but that's a cheap and easy fix. Web pics and printed pages don't even come close to it's presence. It is epic purity... and I'm not even the likely suspect to want an R bike.

Really?  Friend of mine in SoCal took delivery of one on the 13th, and the bar height looks about the same as the Triumphs.  Razz

Love the new front end.  But what's with the wire wheels?  Style is important, but do functionality and versatility really have to take a backseat?  Retro = no need for hard bags, apparently.

Then again, like my friend who already own a K1600GTL, plus a whole fleet of other bikes, the intended demopgraphic likely won't care one bit.

Looks nice.

Here's the $400 Yamaha Retro I purchased last year.  I wonder if I can fit the fuel injection.

Have you seen an R nineT in the flesh? It's pretty pure... I'm not an 'R guy', but I'll be looking forward to some garage queen trade ins in a few years. It needs some proper mirrors...
