WeSTOC XIX - Fortuna, CA Sept 9-11, 2014

WeSTOC is the annual, western gathering of the 'Honda ST Owners Club' (STOC). This event started in 1996 in Park City, UT and has been in held in nearly every western State, (and three times in Canada), since it's inception. While it was started as a Honda ST event it is open to anyone on any bike who wishes to attend. Many of our long time attendees have moved on to other bikes but still join us each year.

This is a 3 day rally held at a hotel and includes a riders meeting on Tuesday night and a banquet on Thursday night. We currently have almost 130 guests registered for this year's event. Past events have been as large as 250 attendees. Your $70 rally fee includes a Tuesday evening BBQ and the catered banquet in the Riverlodge Conference Center on Thursday night.

As the subject line states, this year's event will be held in Fortuna, CA Sept 9-11, 2014. 9 of the top 20 routes in the Destination Highways Northern California book are in this area. Some of the best riding you can find in one place!

This is a slow, contentious and deliberate group that conducts and consults endless polls on the dates and locations, with the plusses and minusses of each, in an interminable quest for an agreed upon place and time. A lot of effort goes into it with lots of planning and preperation.

Then, nobody shows up

Then you show up with your......your......event all wrapped up with a bow on it.

Would be great to see you there!  This event has already been thoroughly planned and vetted by our group!  

I figured why not invite some riders from the other boards to our event and let them know they'd be more than welcome if they wanted to attend! I just looked and we have 28 out of the 126 signed up so far on "other", (non-Honda STs), coming. We also one couple from the Netherlands and another from Australia joining us.

Guess I'll have to take a closer look around here and see if I can find a ride/event I can join in on!

Great! I post here trying to portray our event in the best light I can and then Steve shows up and ruins all my good work!  

Actually, I met Steve at my first WeSTOC in 2001 in Kimberley, BC. Been good riding buddies and friends ever since.

Departure set for tomorrow morning. A couple of 400 mile days and then a five and I'm in the Sierras for a couple of days chasing the young guns before hopping over to San Francisco to pick up my dear wife. A couple of leisurely tourist days up the coast to WeSToc then 3 days of easy rides, evening beer and lies. I usually ride 5000 or so miles to get to and from these events so I don't feel bad about serious socializing while I'm there. Be warned. The old pharts on the big pigs are on the move.

Like a Silver Tsunami, the Honda ST's riders hit Fortuna.  

Least you guys have your hair !  

Enjoy, I could tell you were stoked about this when we had a beer here those few months ago. ST's don't enjoy their more than loyal following without good reason. I have a good friend, in Victoria, who campaigns his ST1100 every summer. None of his riding mates ever complete the lengthy trip without issue as does he.

Well, a great ride it was.   6250 km. in 12 riding days with only the last 1.5 days an Interstate dash for home.

Best ride was a toss up between Monitor Pass in the Sierras and the Oroville to Quincey race Highway.

Image that can not be unseen? Downtown Portland late in the evening an apparition wearing a kilt and Darth Vader mask, riding a unicycle and playing Star Wars theme music on the bagpipes. To accentuate the crescendos the bagpipes belched flame from the pipes... No Shit.

And in completely un-ST-N fashion, next years event hotel has been chosen, dates set and website is up.  :two finger: About a dozen registered already.
