I'm all for sticking with the regular weekend. If we continue to have two per year, it's reasonable that people will be able to make at least one.

Well, I teach. So if .5 is after Labor Day and WCRM is pre-Memorial Day, they'll both always be impossible for me.

Unfortunately, due to other people booking their events, the where and when are inextricably linked.

I'm supporting the weekend before Memorial Day as the when and Quincy as the where.

Enforcement on CA-70 cant be any worse than enforcement on CA-36 and US-101.

Having attended WCRM events in both Fortuna and Quincy (and been rained on in both places) my vote would be for Quincy.  The accommodations and libations are better in Fortuna, though...

Before we get too far along in choosing a venue we ought to see what the Sierra winter brings. If it's a heavy snow year (certainly overdue) the two best roads near Quincy (Oroville-Quincy and Quincy-La Porte) may not be rideable in late May.

That would be Fortuna.  

Knobnose is correct. A heavy winter might dictate a late June/early July for some of the best roads to be opened and even then they'd be filthy with debris. Then there's the seasonal heat to consider; up in the mountains it's not a problem but the valley furnace is starting its unstoppable climb to 11.

Ft Bragg is cool but I don't think there are any campsites that would meet the arduous demands of those insisting on roughing it.

There are only three roads in the area.  101, 128 and 20.  All of them are good, but it makes to loops from town a bit limited.

But the beer is good.

Fort Bragg to Ukiah via 253 and then back to the coast via Orr Springs Rd is pretty sweet. 20 is a fun road too. And, I could ride Bragg to Leggett all day.  

There is a campground in town whose name escapes me Cleo or some such. The state park north of town is beautiful, stayed there two years ago.
