I have worked in prison for over 20 years.  There is a big difference between an outlaw biker and a true 1%er.  1%er is not and I repeat not a nice person.  Don't get fooled by the wanna be.  To know no is not to love or like one....  They are predatory humans.  I have known some just because of my work.  1% means not like the other 99% of the HD crowd.

Please note the ultra-outlaw-like Triumph in the pic above -- further proof of Pirate Confusion . . . .

Also, 1% does not refer to apart from the rest of HD riders, it refers to apart from the rest of riders over all -- it comes from an AMA campaign that was trying to point out that most motorcyclists were nice folks, most as in 99% -- this was during the early days of the outlaw biker frenzy, in which 3 or 4 high school agerd kids on Hondas could cause the creation of an Outlaw Biker Gang Task Force in a sleepy lil suburb  . . . . . . . wishing to distinguiosh themselves from the nice people, the original gangs seized upon the 1% moniker, and hold fast to it today.

True 1% is hard to find among 99% of Harley riders half the time. Headscratch Smile

Back in the 60's and 70's the bikes ridden by the local 1%er clubs (at least in my area) included quite a few Brit marques -- Triumphs, BSA's, Nortons.

With the massive increase in rider numbers the past few years I think the 1%ers thing has a misplaced decimal point. 0.1%ers would be more like it, and they are generally not nice people. Thet 0.1%ers I know rarely ride (except for a brother's funeral) because it is too dangerous for them to do so. Most drive late model 4x4 turbodiesel pickups and SUVs and look just like any other businessmen in town. They have invested their ill-gotten profits in legitimate business and either live off the profits of those businesses, use those businesses to launder money, or both. You could meet one at church or at Walmart and never have a clue he is a murderer, drug dealer, and/or rapist. That is why I do not consider myself a biker and never will.

Why do we romantacize lowlife, scumbag hyperviolent degenerate faggots?    Crazy   I fucking loath these cretins.   Any variant of tolerance extended to "biker gangs" is tantamount to good yielding it's authority to evil.   Fuck them.  Fuck their mothers.  Fuck their brothers.  Fuck their fathers.  Fuck their sympathizers.  They can all just settle down to a nice long sucking of my dirty ass.

Was a CA resident living in DC from 1967-1969, and was astonished at the number
of britbikes on the east coast. The local 1%er club did ride pre-unit construction
Triumphs as well as Panheads. One of the more interesting sights were the 1%ers
wearing OF helmets and faceshields color matched to the paintjobs on their bikes.

The defunct People's Drugs store on the corner in the Georgetown District was a
very popular biker hang albeit out on the sidewalk, not inside the store then. Got
invited by some other bikers (not 1%ers) to go on a ride with them, and we ended
up in some secluded area with a nice little bonfire drinking beer and smoking pot. Smile

Was real good friends with a 1%er from PA, but he always visited in his Corvette
rather than on his customized Triumph. Motorcycles were easily stolen back then
and it wasn't difficult changing the VIN on engine cases and frames.

There's a fairly obscure m/c in your region that has been around since the '60s
which starts with "E". Then there's the better known one starting with "B" as
well a small chapter of a worldwide one also starting with a "B".

Then we have those wanna-be clubs which aren't 1%ers or even outlaw bikers,
but cop a 'tude. In many cases they're the ones starting bar fights and such.

I hate labels and stereotyping.  Face it, they are just people, some nice and some not so nice and quite a few in between.  Sure there's is a male dominated culture, much like the Mormons and plenty of other cultures in our society. And sure, some of them are involved in drugs, but then so are a lot of other people.

I say, hey, we all ride.

I look at them the same way as a rattlesnake. They give you ample warning to stay away from them, if you insist on fucking around you're probably going to get hurt.

I used to ride to the Jersey shore when I was home on leaves.  I stopped at a bar in the boonies one time without even really noticing all the bikes outside (parked near the back in the dark).  Walked into a bar full of Warlocks.

They treated me semi- friendly but it was clear it was only because I was military. Two sodas just to be sociable and I was gone.

When I was in third grade a classmates brother, oh never mind. At a bike show in Syracuse NY this February the HA's had a booth. A member and a prospect were there. I went to the chili cook off instead.
