Star Trek hero takes to the road on custom bike

'In a move worthy of Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner has started a company to create custom futuristic steampunk motorcycles — and will ride his own machine from Chicago to Los Angeles later this year to promote the brand.

Shatner posted a link to the new company's website on his Facebook page.

"Excited about my partnership with American Wrench in forming Rivet Motors," the post reads. "This is the cycle of the future."'

Neat concept, but he is a bit misguided in calling it a motorcycle.

to give credit where it's due, the rep said "a machine" that combines "the experience of riding a motorcycle"... he never said it was a motorcycle. that's all on The Shat's head.

I started the video without sound.  When I saw it was Cpt Kirk with a tricycle, I cut out.  No interest what-so-ever.

At the end of the video Shatner calls it a motorcycle. I think he ought to get a real motorcycle and ride the country the right way. And I think there are a few men that have too much time on their hands!!!

He's 84 and probably never ridden before. I suggest he get a trike if he wants one and someone school him that it's not a motor-bicycle but a motor-tricycle, or motor-bike if combining current common usages.

So, unless those were just publicity stills, it's more about being 84 than never having ridden.

Give the ol' cap'n a break.  Trikes are classified as motorcycles.

Just because most of us (yes, that includes me) don't care for them doesn't mean they are not classified, sold, taxed, registered, tolled, HOV-approved, etc., etc... as motorcycles.

Ol' cap'n probably can't ride a 2-wheeler at 84, but apparently he is okay with a trike.  I'd say: "Live Long and Prosper".   Thumbsup

I hope I'll be as active and adventuresome as him when I get to 84.

84 is what gets my attention too. Yes, he is rich and all but I do like Shatner's enduring enthusiasm. He did ride bikes throughout his life with that Montessa being one of his desert bikes apparently. I think it is cool he is doing this and I could care less if a motorcycle has three wheels ( my first bike/trike did, didn't yours, and shame on any parent who tells their kid that a three wheeler is not a real bicycle !! ?)
Would love to run into him at a gas stop someplace on this. Love him or hate him, he is iconic in so many ways.
