I don't know if this has been posted anyplace before but...

MCN ran a race between a Ducati Desmosedici and Ferrari 430 Scuderia.  Fun to watch

That was one of the worst bike vs. car tests I've seen.

The old man obviously couldn't drive that car for shit.  Now if they would have put a professional driver on both rigs that would have been pretty cool.

I think with equally skilled drivers the results would have been a lot different.

The guy in the Ferrari looked like he took way too many chill pills that morning... Didn't seem to be pulling any g's in the corners at all.  That being said... the editor seemed to be going awfully easy on the desmo too, which is more understandable given it's unobtanium construction materials.

I like em both.  I never understood why people compare bikes to cars.  Cars lean the wrong way.

The Cycle World/Road and Track comparison between a ZX11 and Viper was one of the better comparisons IMHO.  They really tried to even out or take into account all the variables.

If the HP/LB ratio for the car starts to get closer to the bike, the car with its superior stability and grip should win every time.

If you consider the $$ it takes to go that fast, the Bike wins all the time.

MCN ? Mercy,please. Rolleyes

The best comparo of that kind was done by Motorcyclist couple of years ago. They tossed 34 on gixxer 1000 first and later he drove Vette z06.Tests were done at Willow Springs.
In case  you don`t know Schwantz is blindingly fast on 4 wheels also.

Anyway, car got killed to the tune of 5 seconds IIRC.

Unless car is utilizing some sort of down force creating device they don`t stand a chance, all things being equal of course.

I did, thought it was better than the link that started this thread.  Shrug

I forgot where / who did it but I seen a vid of a bike / car race where they had both on the track at the same time racing head to head. I think it was top-gear but can't seem to find it.  Headscratch

Just take a look at results on Mylaps.com. Looking at my local track where I have many hours of experience making laps shows things are pretty equal and the cars can win out in some cases. I looked at WERA results for A, B, and C Superbike Expert and Novice where the top times ranged from 1:02.xxx to 1:05.xxx. I then looked at various classes and results from a Divisional SCCA event which showed times of 1:01.xxx to 1:07.xxx for faster classes. These vehicles included formula type cars and bigger displacement/power sports cars like Corvettes and pony cars like the Mustang. More mundane street or production type cars were in the 1:teens and low 1:twentys. I found four wheel times under one minute but could not verify the car/driver information to be sure what it was so I discarded them from consideration.

Amature but skilled racer vs. amature but skilled rider on the same track with class rules allowing things like sticky race rubber shows things to not be all that far apart. I have personally recorded laps of 1:17.xxx in a street/track day car on DOT R compound tires and I am but a lowly mortal with above average but not great skills. I have been in the right side seat with my student driving a very nice Corvette on DOT R compound rubber and recorded a 1:09.xxx. I say two seconds off a winning Superbike time without slicks on a street legal car that has two people in it is just not a big enough difference to call blown away.

The big question is which one gives you the most wood? I have raced cars and will continue to do it but for now the two wheel thrills win out every time.

I remember that test.  The bike beat the car by 8 seconds per lap.  They also ran an acceleration and braking test, running each vehicle to 100mph, then braking to a stop as quickly as possible.  The bike was stopped before the car reached 100.

I read about another test that pitted a race-spec literbike against an F1 car.  That car is much lighter than any street legal car and has much wider tires.  The racing bike is a bit lighter than a street legal bike and the tires are stickier, but there's not nearly as much difference in performance between a stock literbike and a race-spec bike as there is between even the hottest road car and an 800 hp F1 missile.  The car won that test.
