Marcster has requested a day in the garage and here it is!

The plan: open up the garage at 9am and close it much later  Cool  I'll pull out the charcoal grill, if anyone thinks that food ought to be available.

Tools available:
- a HF tire changer
- an as-of-yet-unpurchased HF tire balancer
- air compressor
- bike stand (http://www.standardautolift.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/mcjack.jpg)
- various and sundry tools

Be warned that I have an electrical problem with the auxiliary stuff on the KLR. Those who profess to be knowledgeable of such stuff will be put to work  Cool

PM me for an address. As of now an RSVP is not required. This may change if people decide that food will become a more substantial part of this gathering. Which reminds me: all are welcome whether you want to work on your bike or not  Bigok

Sweet! http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Happy/woohoo2.gif

I have your address...  I believe that the previous protocol is to have stuff (like my tire) shipped to your house?

Count me in. If I order parts, is it ok to get them drop-shipped to your place?

I'll be bringing at least one bike, more and they'll be on the trailer.

I can help with the electrical.  Thumbsup

Sweet! Dan and I are thinking that it would be better/easier just to pull everything out and lay in new wires. We'll see  Cool

I would like to take part in the tire changing if  we can balance and someone shows me how to do stuff since I am not good with a wrench. Crazy I can flip a good burger if need be. Can that be considered a trade?

It's official...  http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Vehicles-Scoot-Cycle/119534227-Ti.gif  There's a Kenda K671 rollin' on down to Colleen's Tech Day:

(The front tire is on the left -- my bike came with a new K671 on the rear).

Believe it or not, JC Whitney had the best price, including a 20% off code I found online.  It beat motorcycle-superstore.com and BikeBandit.com.

I plan on popping in with A few boxes of Joe and donuts. I'm pretty self sufficient in maintaining my bike so I'm good there but I can assist in helping out if anyone needs it.

Having changed at least a dozen sets of tires on my own HF changer perhaps I can demonstrate a couple of tricks I've learned. I can bring my Marc Parnes balancer which I have cones for the BMW RT and late model K rear wheels. I also have a Coats styled demounting bar with nylon inserts I can strap to the bike if you think it'll come in handy.

I'll shoot out a PM to get the address, If I have time I'll truck up my home made lift for us to use for the day, again, if you think it would be of help

Hmmm. If the planets align, guitardad and myself may swing up there. Its only 200+ miles. I don't need anything done - at least not right now. He's pretty good at electrical stuff - has wired all my auxillary doo-dads - and well versed in taking apart /reassembling oil head BMWs.  Lol

If I wanted to hardwire my GPS and radar to the fuseblock, what would I need to bring? I plug both into the dash outlet now with the supplied power cables. Do I need any special cabling to do that?

Dunno, but I do have some wire and connectors and stuff in the garage, if that'll help Shrug

oooo - I'd love it if you brought all of that (including the tricks  Thumbsup )  I've been thinking about getting some nylon No-Mar stuff

I don't know if the lift will help, but if you bring it I have no doubt that it'll cause some interest amongst the crowd  Cool

The HF changer is brutal if used as shipped. You get what you pay for so you need to add rubber to the grips and the nylon tipped mounting/demounting bar to keep your rims in decent shape. It also makes it a one person job.

I'll bring everything I use to do mine. The lift would be a stretch though  Headscratch

Considering I've only done beat-up KLR rims on the mine, I guess I didn't put a lot of emphasis on keeping things shiny.

As for the lift, hey, you're the one who brought it up  Razz

Considering that my front wheel is still nice and shiny, the sound of "No Mar" and adding "rubber to the grips" is appealing... http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Yes/clapping.gif

My rear wheel has mysterious black stains (splashes):  driveway sealant? black paint? martian pee?  It's not the end of the wold, but maybe you guys can take a look and think of some chemical that would remove it without damaging the wheel's finish.  Simple Green, mineral spirits or turpentine come to mind.  The stains were on the rim when I bought the bike.

Also, I don't know if it's too much trouble to diagnose, but it would be nice to find out why my bike is using oil.  I PMed with Chris about this and he thinks it's either the valve guides or the rings and advised me to check the airbox and plugs for contamination.  The bike seems to be burning it, it's not dripping it but it's not smoking at the exhaust either.
