Origin of "squid" & what do they call us?

Wondering about the origin of a couple of terms used on forums. I get "pirate", but where does "squid" come from? How about "farkle"? And what do the squids and pirates call us?
When you're retired, you have way too much time to think about crap.

I believe the term squid comes from surfing.

At one time I heard that "squid" came from the fact that squids can swim really fast in a straight line, but cannot change direction quickly at all.

I think "Farkle" is Functional Sparkle. Contrary to people on cruisers who just add bling for the sparkle, more practical types add accessories that may look good but their primary purpose is to be functional

General consensus indicates that "squid" is derived from "SQUirrelly kID"
which is not surprising since someone who acts crazy is called a "squirrel"
or is said to act "squirrelly." From the motoXschool.com web site.
http://www.motoxschool.com/mxtermscopy.htm
More from a Motorcycle.com message posted by "squidly."
http://news.motorcycle.com/article.motml?thold=-1&mode=flat&order=0&sid=1320
"The term, 'Squid' actually comes from the combination of two words:
Squirrelly + Kid. Thus the shortened form would be Squid. The term
originated on the back roads of California."
There is some talk that it is derived from Navy personnel (called "squids"
by Marines) would get motorcycles and wildly ride them around, as well as
it being Vietnam War slang, but neither are as recognized as the "kID"
version.
Google is cool.

Well, I've come up with two more for squid, both related to previous postings.
A peejorative term for sailors.

This is just a story, but it sounds believable. I heard this from a Vietnam Vet rider.
Young Navy enlisted personnel were referred to as "Squids". Apparently during the Vietnam era and when we still had quite a presence in Japan, some of the Navy guys
were allow to bring home Japanese bikes still in crates on the returning ships.
So new low-skill Navy riders on fast Jap bikes became commonly known as squids, associated with the Navy personnel term and the
fact that a squid (the invertabrate) goes fast in a straight line.

that would definitely be their definition while moving.
While parked it would most likely be " the old guy having a mid life crisis "

Don't know the origin, but in the early '70s we used it in the MX/dirt-biking world to refer to someone doing dumbsh*t or annoying things, often off-track stuff, like riding way too fast through the pits.

Squid is slang for an excellent (non-cruiser) motorcycle rider who eschews gear....
Farkle is gay terminology for non-chrome motorcycle attachments...

It's from squirrely kid back in the 70's mx scene.
Squid as a Sailor goes way back same as Marines as jarheads and Soldiers as grunts or troopers. Sewer pipe Sailors are bubbleheads.
Farkles is just some NYC bathhouse gay thing, God knows what it's supposed to mean.
What Pirates call us is Power Rangers from our riding suits and full face helemts..
