The iPad 3 is set to be introduced tomorrow, March 7th.  Are you hysterical over this intro, or blase and nonchalant?

I'm interested.  Reading this on my iPad 1.  I might be more likely to buy a cost-reduced iPad 2 upgrade than 3, I'll need to see the dimensions first.

I have an iPad 2 through work.  From what I've read on rumors, the main upgrades are:

1. Better camera - a fair point because the iPad 2 camera is horrible
2. Higher resolution display - I'm sure it's nice but not sure it's worth the upgrade
3. Faster processor - that's always nice to have
4. Possible LTE network usage - not a big priority as most of my use is in wifi areas

Unconfirmed rumor is that it will have no home button - I'm not sure what that will mean for useability.

Sadly, I can't find a use for a tablet (that justifies the cost, at least) . I'm going to get my geekcard pulled for that, but I'm connected enough! Between an iPhone, a laptop I travel with for work anyway, and a Kindle that has battery life for reading on the road....

Maybe, eventually, something. I dunno.

I'm perfectly happy with my iPad 2. I probably wouldn't bother upgrading except that my wife has been lobbying for me to get the new one so she can inherit the old one. We'll see how it looks.

Honestly, I'm more interested in the rumored Apple TV update.

I love my IPad1 and it would take a great deal to move to any upgrade. A wee bit smaller screen, high def screen, quality face time/skype camera would get my attention.

But it is all about price and It would have to be sub $350 to move me at this time.

I'm with expatbrit.  I haven't identified a good reason to get one (other than "NEW TOY!).  Laptop and smartphone handle everything fine.  Do I need another connected device?  What is it going to add?  Is it worth paying ANOTHER wireless service charge?

I'm just not there.

Plus, I don't want to carry any more crap than I do already.

Cablebandit keeps saying I'm the kind of person for whom the iPad was created, so I'm expecting one for my birthday this July!  Bigsmile  But I answered "paper and pen" because I have lovely handwriting.

I'm still happy with my first gen iPad.  It does everything I need it to for now.  And, if I need something more, I'll use my wife's new MacBook Air (13").  While I'm interested in what the third generation will look like and how it will function, I don't see an upgrade for me at this time.

Xoom (Android based).  I still read real books, you know...with paper pages.  And I still take personal notes in notebooks.  The fact that most tablets don't use a stylus as a main input device is idiotic and shortsighted.

Also, people who still think tablets will kill the PC/laptop/notebook are high on crack.  I use our tablet for playing cheesy games, surfing, checking email, maybe watching a movie on a flight.  That's it.

I do own Apple stock tho, so all you Apple freaks...keep on buying. Lol

+1  that's why we picked up the MacBook Air (in additon to helping your stock price  Bigsmile ).  The tablet is great for the items you noted above and that's about it.  I need a "real" PC to do work related items.

I scored an Ipad 1 when the 2 came out.
It is the favored device in the household among polled users aged 3-43. Bigsmile  It has so many positives it's pointless to list them.

My wife got a free Kindle Fire from work for Xmas and it pretty much sits idle; no comparisson to the Ipad in any way.  The Ipad is just plain better in every way.
When the Ipad 3 comes out I will cruise craigslist relentlessy for a used 2. Wink

A tablet + a virtual desktop delivered via Citrix is a pretty powerful combination. It works well enough that I've stopped traveling with my laptop.

I buy from the Apple store. Refurbished with a full warranty.  You can get an Apple 2 Ipad for $419 with free shipping.  That price should drop when the 3 comes out. An Ipad1 refurbished is $299

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

I have a PC laptop, Iphone 4, IMAC desktop at home and the Ipad.  The Ipad is used the most.  I love it for cooking as you look up a recipe and it fits nicely nearby .... it has reKindled my reading habits and I now devour books again. If I feel sick, it is great thing to curl up with and doze.

Yeah. Citrix or another VDI solution would be nice. Sadly, all too often I don't have connectivity at work (odd as a networking guy, but whatever) so I need the static abilities of the laptop.

For UFO, it is a Macbook Pro, so I'm also driving your stock!

My favorite tablet is the Adderall 40mg.

That said, I have an iPad V1, which I brought back from "smashed at a bar" condition (my old agency had a fleet of them used in bar promotions).  It's now functional, but the case was bent to the point where I had to use gaffer's tape around the edged to seal the innards.

If I had the $, I'd get a new iPad2 or iPad3 if available.  I love my Android phone, but I use the iPad as a control surface for lighting and music applications at work, and the MIDI/OSC software for Android just isn't as useful/developed as it is for iOS.  Hell, you can get the Lemur app for iPad and basically have the same control surface top-flight musicians were paying $3k for just a few years ago.

I use the Ignition App which gives me remote workstation and plotter access from anywhere on my iPad.   Thumbsup

I have a work laptop at home that I use for rare needs - mostly to use Mapsource, and for my kids to play online games.  I use the iPad predominantly for browsing, spreadsheets, word processing, email, reading, mulit-user grocery list, videos, mapping, etc.  It's become my go-to device for at home or when mobile and has essentially replaced the need for a home PC (for me, at least).

I'm thinking Siri-embedded, so couch potatoes won't even have to bother looking for the remote anymore.

And maybe they've licensed some Kinect technology so you can do sweeps and gestures to change channels and volume.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that was purchased by my employer and am developing a cloud based system that will use these devices in our power plant. I plan to put them in the hands of out operators to gather information, generate reports, and access drawings. I had the choice to use any device including the Ipad, but chose the Galaxy Tab.

I use my tablet both at work and home and it has almost replaced my laptop for personal use. At work I do all my notes and my schedule is kept on it. I hate using pen and paper and this keeps me from having to drag a bunch of crap with me to meetings. Once I have the cloud up and running I will have even more resources available at work.
